CATALYST A WINNER AT THINK TANK OSCARS
Prospect Think Tank of the Year awards, Bournemouth 2003

Catalyst beat off competition from better resourced organisations across the political spectrum to pick up the much-coveted "One To Watch" prize at the prestigious Think Tank of the Year Awards hosted by Prospect magazine at the 2003 Labour Party Conference.

A broad judging panel chaired by Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland offered special praise for Catherine Needham's Citizen-consumers, which they said was also a close runner for "Publication of the Year", and David Walker's In praise of centralism: a critique of the new localism, recently reported to have significantly influenced the Chancellor's thinking in the debate over Foundation Hospitals.

" ...Catalyst came into its own this year... "
- David Goodheart, Prospect editor

" ...the thinking person's Old Labour... "
- Jonathan Freedland, chair of judging panel

" ...the work of Catalyst has provided us with some awkward moments... "
- senior government adviser, quoted by the judging panel

Accepting the award, Catalyst Director Martin McIvor thanked the many supporters, contributors and collaborators whose belief in Catalyst had enabled it to make such a valuable impact on the national policy debate.
